Guest Lecture of Dr. Ali A Fouladi-Nashta "Size-dependent Impact of Hyaluronan on Embryo Development and Pregnancy Outcome"

On July 4th, 2024, Dr. Ali A Fouladi-Nashta delivered an insightful online guest lecture titled "Size-dependent Impact of Hyaluronan on Embryo Development and Pregnancy Outcome," hosted by OH-BOOST. With a rich background in veterinary medicine and reproductive biology, Dr. Nashta, currently a Reader at the Royal Veterinary College, London, presented his research findings on the significant roles of hyaluronan (HA) in reproductive processes.

Dr. Nashta's research highlights how different molecular weights of HA affect oocyte maturation and early embryo development. He explained that high molecular weight HA is crucial for cumulus cell expansion and oocyte maturation, while lower molecular weight fragments play diverse roles, including supporting cell migration and angiogenesis. His findings suggest that manipulating HA levels can enhance reproductive outcomes, providing potential benefits for both veterinary and human fertility treatments.

The event, supported by the European Union's HORIZON program, emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary research in advancing One Health concepts. Dr. Nashta's extensive experience, including his foundational work at the Roslin Institute and research at prestigious universities, underscores the critical contributions of HA in female reproductive health.
