A team of OH-Boost researchers from the Estonian University of Life Sciences, together with partners from the University of Tartu, actively participated in the Helsinki One Health (HOH) Researcher Forum 2025, held at Kulttuurikeskus Sofia, Helsinki, Finland, on 20th August 2025.
The forum provided a platform for interdisciplinary discussions, sharing innovative research ideas, and exploring emerging topics within the One Health framework. It featured over 22 platform presentations covering a wide range of One Health-related themes.
A highlight from the Estonian OH-Boost team was the presentation by Chanaka Premathileka, Junior Research Fellow at the Estonian University of Life Sciences, who, in a presentation titled "Developing fecal extracellular vesicles as a non-invasive biomarker to study gut health, particularly in the context of infectious diseases," shared recent findings on gut microbiome dysbiosis in calves under different gastrointestinal infections. His talk introduced a novel, non-invasive sampling-based approach for diagnosing dysbiosis, which was well-received for its potential applications in veterinary diagnostics and One Health surveillance.
In addition to the scientific sessions, OH-Boost researchers held strategic discussions with counterparts at the University of Helsinki to align future research directions and explore opportunities for joint projects under the OH-Boost initiative.
