On March 5th, 2025, our One Health PhD students met with representatives from the Science Centre AHHAA at Zoomedicum. The event featured research presentations and a workshop by AHHAA experts: “How to Communicate Science to the General Public?”
The event fostered valuable discussions on how to make scientific findings more accessible and impactful for society. Our PhD researchers presented their latest work, covering a wide range of topics, from gut health and food safety to innovative solutions derived from milk, plants, and algae. These presentations led to engaging conversations with AHHAA experts on the importance of effectively communicating research outcomes to the public.
Chanaka Premathilaka – “Poo can tell you how your tummy is doing”
Madhusha Prasadani – “Milk is not only to drink, but to tell us about health”
Tiina Mandel – “Safety and quality of plant-based alternatives and high-risk plant-based foods”
Subhashini Muhandiram – “Do embryos talk?”
Evgeniy Brik – “Exploring the therapeutic potential of milk and algae extracellular vesicles for enhanced skin health and wound healing”
Gayandi Ekanayake – “Smart Solutions from Food Waste: The Role of Plant Extracellular Vesicles”
Omid Mousavi – “Baby feels mother’s stress”
Deep Bhattacharya – “Milk’s Secret Superpowers: Tiny Helpers for a Healthier You!”
This meeting was an important step toward bridging scientific research with public engagement, fostering collaboration between young researchers and science communication experts. By working together, we can enhance the accessibility of research findings and bring One Health knowledge closer to the wider community.
A huge thank you to the AHHAA team for their expertise, insights, and inspiration!
We look forward to future collaborations that will further amplify the impact of One Health research.
