OH-Boost Team at the Green University Week! 

Participation in The Green University Week, on 17th of March, 2025, was a remarkable occasion to highlight the interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health. The One Health event gathered experts, researchers, and students, fostering insightful discussions and hands-on experiences that advanced the understanding of this critical field.

Diving into One Health

The event opened with an engaging lecture by Prof. Arvo Viltrop, who provided a comprehensive overview of One Health—its origins, current relevance, and future direction. Attendees gained valuable insights into the integrated approach necessary to tackle modern health challenges.

Young researchers bringing innovation

The OH – Boost Team showcased groundbreaking research during the “5 Minutes with Science” session:

• Madhusha Prasadani presented how milk can serve as an early indicator of diseases, offering new perspectives on preventive health measures.

• Subhashini Muhandiram explored the fascinating communication between embryos and mothers at the earliest stages of life.

• Omid Mousavi highlighted the effects of maternal stress on fertility and pregnancy success, sparking discussions on mental and reproductive health.

• Gayandi Ekanayake introduced sustainable solutions using plant extracellular vesicles, particularly from potato peel waste, to develop natural preservatives.

• Deep Bhattacharya discussed the health benefits of extracellular vesicles derived from whey, emphasizing their role in enhancing gut microbiota.

Hands-on learning in the lab

Participants had the unique opportunity to step into the world of research through a lab tour hosted by Kasun Godagedara. The session allowed attendees to explore:

• Techniques for growing and studying living cells in laboratory conditions.

• The wonders of fluorescence microscopy and its applications in biomedical research.

• Hands-on interactions with real lab samples, providing a glimpse into advanced research methodologies.
