About Speakers:

Senior advisor Tiina Avomaa is working at the research services at the University of Helsinki in a team called Research Management Support. She supports the Vice Dean of Research at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Research administration, e.g. in tasks related to research strategy and implementation. She is also the secretary of the Research Committee at the Faculty.

In addition to Faculty level tasks she engages in many University level tasks and working groups. At the inter-institutional level she has been actively involved in the University network UNA Europa to enhance the research collaboration between Universities. One of these actions was the mapping of One Health related shared-use infrastructures in UNA Europa Universities.

Research director Maria Vartiainen received her PhD from the University of Helsinki in 2002. Since 2007, she has led her own research group, funded for example by ERC and Research Council of Finland, at the Institute of Biotechnology (BI), University of Helsinki. Her research focuses on how the cell nucleus is functionally organized using advanced microscopy and functional genomics methods. She is leads the Light Microscopy Unit, an open access core facility at BI, is the vice director of BI, and the HiLIFE deputy director for research infrastructures.

Marko Peura works as a Senior Adviser at University of Helsinki, with main responsibility in University-level development processes of research infrastructures. He holds a PhD in Physics. Peura is the principal adviser in all matters related to University-level commitment to large-scale RIs. At Uni.Helsinki, he is strongly involved in compiling the University’s RI policy. His research background is in soft condensed matter physics and utilisation of x-rays and synchrotron radiation to study the structure and dynamical properties of biopolymers.

Senior advisor Harri Nurmi graduated M.Sc. in 2009, and received his PhD in 2017, both degrees are from the University of Helsinki. During his time as a researcher, he focused on biomolecular research on vascular growth factors. Since 2020 he has been working in the Research Services at UH. He has worked both at the faculty level assignments and he is currently in university-level position. In recent years, he has focused especially on the development of life science research infrastructures.
