Valentina Oborina's Training on Clinical Research at the University of Helsinki

From November 18 to December 6, 2024, Valentina Oborina, a senior veterinarian from the EMU Animal Clinic, participated in the “Clinical Research (CVM)” training cycle hosted by the University of Helsinki. The three-week hybrid program focused on advancing skills and knowledge for clinical and research settings in veterinary medicine.

Valentina, who specializes in emergency and critical care and is pursuing a PhD in parasitology (vector-borne parasitic diseases in dogs), also teaches veterinary students about parasitology and emergency care.

The training was led by Dr. Sanna Viitanen (DVM, PhD, Dipl ECVIM-CA) and Sonja Lahti (DVM, clinical teacher). Key topics covered included:

• Planning and conducting clinical research in veterinary clinics.

• Designing practical training programs for veterinary students.

• Managing ICU operations, including staff organization.

• Handling complex clinical cases with insights from experienced clinicians.

In addition to theoretical knowledge, participants observed advanced clinical procedures and gained insights into the use of endoscopy. The training emphasized practical applications, utilizing state-of-the-art clinical equipment for patient monitoring and diagnostics.

This activity, organized as part of OH-Boost Work Package 1 (WP1, Task 1.2), represents a significant knowledge transfer effort in veterinary clinical research and education.
