Food Microbiology Conference 2024: A Hub of Innovation and Collaboration
From July 8th to 11th, the historic city of Burgos, Spain, renowned as the European city of human evolution, is hosting one of the most prestigious food microbiology conferences in the world. The event gathers top-tier scientists and researchers to discuss technological evolution and revolution in food microbiology.
Professor Alireza Fazeli, PhD student Gayandi Ekanayake, and fellow researcher Dulmini Nanayakkara Sapugahawatte from our research team are participating in this year's conference in Burgos. Gayandi and Dulmini are presenting their research through poster presentations.
Gayandi's work focuses on the antibacterial and antibiofilm properties of potato peel-derived EVs against Bacillus cereus, falling under the category of technologies for food preservation and sustainability.
Dulmini's poster highlights the effective suppression of Staphylococcus aureus through periodic dosing of pasteurized milk-derived EVs, classified under the microbial resistance category.
This conference is a melting pot of knowledge, featuring parallel sessions on various critical topics such as microbial food ecology, the impact of climate on food safety, new methods in food microbiology, fermented food, foodborne pathogens, and antimicrobial resistance. The event offers an exceptional opportunity for collaboration, networking, and knowledge sharing, making it a significant step in advancing food safety and sustainability.
