Webinar: One Health in the PhD Curriculum: Insights from the University of Milan’s VAS Program
On the 4th of December 2024, we hosted the webinar “One Health in the PhD Curriculum: Insights from the University of Milan’s VAS Program” as part of its mission to advance interdisciplinary research and education in One Health. The webinar was hosted by Prof. Fabrizio Ceciliani, from the University of Milan, Italy. Prof. Ceciliani is the Coordinator of the Veterinary and Animal Sciences (VAS) PhD program and Editor-in-Chief of Veterinary Research Communications.

Defining One Health: Professor Fabrizio Ceciliani emphasized the need for a unified approach to health across humans, animals, and ecosystems, stressing the importance of a clear and actionable definition.
Challenges in Multidisciplinary PhD Programs: Integrating One Health into three-year PhD programs is difficult due to time constraints and funding needs. A multidisciplinary approach with biomedical, environmental, and social components was proposed as a solution.
Educational Innovation: Proposals for flexible and interactive PhD curricula were discussed, highlighting the need for collaboration, a common language, and shared goals among diverse disciplines.
The webinar sparked engaging discussions on the future of One Health research and education, underscoring the need for collaboration and innovative approaches.
